Many people feel sick from going into the hospitals in Nigeria to visit their friends and relatives who are on admission because of that depressing smell. We know it is important for the hospitals to be clean and disinfected, but trust me, the hospitals in Nigeria pour gallons of disinfectant everywhere for the smell to have been that strong.
That being said, we really appreciate the doctors and nurses who spend their time in the hospitals trying to save lives. They however have a long way to go as there are certain lapses they need to see to when it comes to the hospitals.
1. When the hospital bed smells funny
The beds in many hospitals in Nigeria smell funny; it is enough discomfort in itself when that sickening smell stings your nose. This is one of the reasons why you would want to leave anyway.
2. When it takes forever to see the doctor
Most hospitals in Nigeria make it seem like it is a big deal to see the doctors while you are on admission. Are the doctors not meant to be available and accessible to patients?
The queue that you would see in front of the doctor’s office could make you have depressing thoughts. While we know doctors are found in the hospitals, you would start to doubt this when you need their attention while at the hospital.
3. When the nurses scream at you when you are in labor pains
The nurses in most of the hospitals in Nigeria are far from being compassionate. They are impatient and act like they hate the job. They have little or no tolerance for patients and would shout at them any chance they have.
They also have weird comments to pass when women are in labor.
4. When every sickness is assumed to be malaria and typhoid
It is really sad to know that many of the patients are assumed to be sick with malaria or typhoid fever. Some doctors would not even run tests on the patients before they start to treat them.
The doctors are so good they know what is wrong with the patients by looking at them. We do not need to tell you about the drugs you will get from the hospitals; you know paracetamol would always be included.
5. When all the doctors have wobbly handwriting
It is almost impossible reading the prescriptions written by the doctors. This has become a point of concern as many are left wondering if the doctors ever practiced how to write properly in school. But not to worry, the pharmacists always understand.
6. When the needle pricks you many times before the drip is set
This is a really bad experience for most people. Having your skin pricked with needle severally before the drip is set is so not cool. It is near impossible leaving the hospital after an admission and not having pains as a result of the injections you took.
7. When the nurses wake you up to sedate you
We are sure you remember the nurses waking you up to give you more drugs that would make you sleep the more. The nurses sometimes act like they want you to sleep all the days of your life.
8. When your bill finally comes
It is at this point you will understand the reason why the doctors and nurses insisted on you being admitted. The bill is usually a crazy one; it will instantly get you calculating how much you might have gained if you had invested it in your business.
Notwithstanding, health is wealth. The bill would at least make you rethink the next time you fall sick.
