Buhari Finally gets Clean 2016 Budget – Reps

The House of Representatives has confirmed that the cleaned-up copy of the controversial 2016 budget had been transmitted to President Muhammadu Buhari, with the hope that he would soon sign same into law.
Following the expression of concern by the President over some “grey areas” in the budget as passed by the National Assembly, several meetings were held between the parliament and the presidency, culminating in the constitution of a joint committee which membership was drawn from both the executive and the legislature, under the leadership of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yussuff Lasun, to iron out those areas.
Disclosing same in a chat with newsmen yesterday, the Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Hon. Jonathan Gaza, said overtime, there had been differences, but that “both arms have sat down and agreed that our economy needs to move forward.”
Speaking further, he said “our desire is for the country to move forward; that was why a committee was set up, headed by the Deputy Speaker, and it has membership from the House, the Senate and the executive. The result has been submitted to the President.”
On the ongoing sectoral debate on the nation’s economy, organised by the House, the lawmaker said it was important “because we want to know the areas of integration and synergy, and to have a seamless administration for the good of the nation.”
