Mrs Ngozi Nwatarali, NYSC State Coordinator in Rivers, disclosed this during the swearing-in ceremony of the Batch ‘A’ Stream 2 corps members at the Orientation Camp, Nonwa-Gbam, Tai Local Government Area.
“As at the close of registration yesterday, a total of 2,160 corps members were registered.
“This figure has 945 males and 1,215 as females,” she said.
Nwatarali described the orientation course as an essential part of the NYSC.
“It is the first door that is opened to usher in prospective corps members,” she said.
Nwatarali commended the corps members for being law abiding since their arrival at the orientation camp.
“They have shown high sense of responsibility and are ready to imbibe the high standard of discipline which the orientation course is scheduled to inculcate in them,” she said.
Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers, who declared the orientation programme open, urged the corps members to be disciplined and committed to the nation.
Wike, represented by Dr George Nwaeke, Permanent Secretary, Special Services, Secretary to the State Government Office, said the orientation programme was a period to foster cooperation and understanding among corps members.
“I enjoin you to exhibit the highest level of loyalty, dedication, discipline and commitment to the nation.
“You must take personal decision to abandon any past unhealthy conduct and disposition and become hardworking, forward-looking, caring, motivated and patriotic to members of the society,” he said.
