Kano University student commits suicide over poor grades

A student of the Bayero University, Kano, Sarah Imoleaya, has reportedly committed suicide over poor academic performances.
It was learnt that the victim, who was a student of the Department of Library Science, Faculty of Education, drank Sniper, a brand of insecticide, and left suicide note.
A journalist with the campus radio station, Unity FM, Bello Lukman, who shared the story on his Facebook wall, quoted the suicide note as stating, “I will not apply for course suspension. My academics is all I live for (sic). If I can’t get it right, f**k existence.”
The deceased, said to be an indigene of Edo State, reportedly approached the university’s faculty office to find a solution to her academic issues but was told that nothing could be done.
It was learnt that she took the poison once she left the office, and left the short suicide note under the staircase of the office along with the container of the poison.
The spokesperson for the Kano State Police Command, Mr. Musa Majiya, said the incident took place on Thursday, May 19, adding that the report the police got was that she drank poison over a spill over.
“The case has been transferred to the homicide unit of the department of criminal investigation for discreet investigation,” he said.
