Buhari to commission Calabar monorail – Ayade

Cross River State Governor Ben Ayade has said the state is ready for the commissioning of the Calabar monorail by President Muhammadu Buhari.
This will be the second time the president is visiting the state after his earlier visit in 2015 to flag off the construction of the state’s superhighway and deep seaport.
Buhari is expected to commission the first monorail in sub-Sahara Africa while his wife, Aisha will commission the Cross River Garment Factory to mark Ayade’s first year in office.
Speaking moments after another test ride on the monorail, Ayade said taking another ride in the monorail was his own way of checking to ensure that the project is ready for commission- ing.
“As you are aware, the President and Commander-in-Chief, Muhammadu Buhari, is visiting the state soon to commission this project, so, it is our responsibility to ensure that the facility is exposed to extreme pressure to ascertain its durability and safety before he takes a ride.
“That is why I have taken it upon myself to be the first experimental animal to be exposed to the risk and challenges and I can proudly say that I find it interestingly rewarding and exciting riding in the monorail.”
On whether the monorail will be fully ready to accommodate the huge crowd that will flood the state soon, the governor said: “Seeing the commitment the contractor has shown so far, in fact, he had to fly in some expatriates who are currently conducting final test and they are working day and night to ensure that everyone visiting will have a smooth ride on the rail.”
